After more than a year in preview. Microsoft has recently announced the general availability of Azure Synapse Analytics.
What is Microsoft Azure Synapse Analytics?
Azure Synapse Analytics is a limitless analytics service, decreasing your time to insights by bringing together data integration, enterprise data warehousing, and big data analytics, all into a single service. It combines capabilities spanning the needs of data engineering, machine learning, and BI without creating silos in processes and tools.
– This means that Microsoft has provided a packaged solution for BI that makes the process of working with BI related Azure services much easier both in terms of governance and usability. One workspace from where you can do both Ad Hoc queries and analysis from many types of data sources, as well as bring in machine learning capabilities to run advanced analytics scenarios, says Mathias Dalevi, Senior BI Architect at Elvenite.
Cloud data warehousing and big data analytics in one place.
In other words, Azure Synapse Analytics in combination with Power BI lets you analyze massive volumes of data, efficiently and quickly. And you can now consume your existing Power BI datasets and reports or create new ones, based on your existing data, just by linking your Synapse and Power BI workspaces.
Azure Synapse merges cloud data warehousing and big data analytics into a single service platform. That means that if you’re trying to assess whether you need a cloud data warehouse, a data lake, or both, Azure Synapse Analytics can bridge both of those needs for you. You can either query data using serverless on-demand resources, or provisioned resources. In one single place.
– This is a starting point where the capabilities will increase over time which will enable us to create even more fantastic solutions for our customers, says Mathias Dalevi.
